Local writer Phil Preece’s new monologues will premier at the Lichfield Garrick on March 28.

The comedy pieces – My Diet From Hell and Such A Laugh – have been written for the Opus Theatre Company.

My Diet From Hell tells the story of Karen and her desperate desire to lose weight, seemingly against all odds. She tries everything – fasting, crisps, the gym, even hypnotherapy, until she meets the man of her dream – or that is, she thinks she has!

The second monologue, Such A Laugh, is a bitter-sweet story of a friend of a friend who accidentally falls in love with completely the wrong person.

The writer of the pieces explained his inspiration:

“The idea first came to me after watching a number of wonderful professional shows in the Garrick Studio. I wrote these two short plays especially for this space and tailor-made the scripts to the talents of Della and Paulo Allen of Opus Theatre.”

Having known Phil – and his ability to tell more than the odd comical tale in his own unique way – during my time as a Lichfield hack, I’m sure these pieces will be genuinely hilarious.

Tickets for the 7.30pm show are £12 adults and £8 for students. To book, call 01543 412121 or visit the Lichfield Garrick website.
