A speed check is being set up on the Walsall Road in Lichfield after complaints about speeding drivers.

Lichfield District Council leader David Smith confirmed the measure on his blog.

On his official site, he wrote:

“County Highways are installing a speed check to confirm the average speed. Depending on the results we will have some data to consider what action needs to be taken.”

Not sure of the value of a speed check. All you need to do in order to confirm the speed limit is being broken in Lichfield is to stand on any given pavement at any given time of any given day.
Whatever the speed limit, a lot of drivers seem to think they can add an extra 5-10mph to it anyway (well, mainly the ones with Child on Board stickers on the back windscreen).
Even punishment for speeders doesn’t work as they just complain about yet another “unfair tax on the poor motorist”.
