Fourteen Lichfield students have been backed as they prepare to represent the area in Staffordshire’s Young Enterprise Finals.

The King Edward VI School pupils – known as Eventerprise – beat off competition from other youngsters to win Company of the Year at the Tamworth and Lichfield Young Enterprise Finals held at Drayton Manor on April 22.

Eventerprise, made up of students aged between 16 and 17, was one of 11 teams from schools and colleges across Lichfield District and Tamworth Borough, competing in this year’s local awards.

The young entrepreneurs spent the last eight months creating a business from scratch and running it as a real business.

During the local final, the teams each had eight minutes to present their companies and their achievements. Their scores for these presentations were then added to those for their company reports and earlier trade fair performances – with Eventerprise winning the overall coveted Company of the Year title.

The King Edward VI team will now compete against young hopefuls from across Staffordshire in the county finals on 6 May.

Seventeen year-old Matthew Bamford, Eventerprise Director, said:

“We worked so hard on our event planning company, which is culminating with a Black Tie Dinner at The Old Schoolhouse Restaurant in Weeford on May 7. It’s great that our hard work has been rewarded in this way, and we hope to do Lichfield proud in the county finals. There are still some tickets available for the sumptuous dinner, to book your tickets simply visit www.blacktiedinner.co.uk.”

Councillor John Wilks, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, was one of the first in line to congratulate the group on their success. He added:

“I was extremely impressed by the passion and energy of all the competitors. This is a fantastic competition, encouraging young people to think creatively, and giving them a taste of life in the real business world.

This final has shown that Lichfield and Tamworth are thriving with business savvy students, and I would like to wish Eventerprise the very best of luck in the next round.”
