Campaigners battling plans to build 850 new homes in Streethay have seen their protest signs stolen.

The Streethay Against Development (SAD) group had 12 signs taken on April 24 between 9am and midday from sites around the village.

SAD chairman Roger Manning said he believed the signs had been taken to try and disrupt the campaign.

He added:

“This appears to have been a ‘dirty trick’ theft to disrupt our publicity about what could happen to our village if the developers and planners get their way.  We will not let the incident disrupt our campaign. If anything, this mean theft has given us even greater resolve.  It certainly indicates what we are up against.”

The A3 signs were laminated and mounted on boards fixed to wooden staves. Many of the signs which were taken were in the front gardens of villagers.

Witnesses have reported a white male, of stocky build, dark hair, aged around 40, wearing a bomber jacket, taking one of the signs from the verge near to Dyott Close on April 24.  He was driving a white van, thought to be a Vauxhall Vivara or a Nissan Prima Star.

Mr Manning added:

“This seems to be a deliberate attempt to disrupt a perfectly legal community challenge to what could be the demise of the Streethay community and its scenic beauty. “

The crime has been reported to Staffordshire Police and anyone with information is urged to call PC Richard Allsopp on 0300 123 4455.

Totally agree, this action will not deter the “Streethay Against Development” Someone may have taken the posters but the campaign will go on!
A message to the people of Streethay “Comeone everybody, get behind this campaign, put posters in your windows, be vocal, back any events. This is your village, don’t let it lose it’s character”

What sort of a rat bag steals signs like that. He needs locking up. What are we coming to when folk can’t campaign about something important without being targetted by thieves. It’s a diabolical liberty.

Hmm, sounds like the developer or land owner up to no good . This is typical. It could always be some scum bag getting a back hander to allow this to go ahead !
Its time for the people of lichfield and the surrounding villages to stand up to this and stop these developments. I understand the need for housing , but where will these people work , go to school and enjoy leisure time , let alone the fact they will all drive cars to get from Streethay. people need to use their vote !
