The big names of online journalism have visited Birmingham to discuss the future of the media – and The Lichfield Blog was there.

Determined as we are to make sure we’re giving people across the Lichfield district the chance to read, discuss, debate and make the news, The Lichfield Blog heard the views of some of the media’s key figures as they discussed various developments in the industry at JEECamp 09 on Friday.

As well as hearing from independent websites who are leading the way in local media, there were also members of the national press among the select band of conference visitors.

Up for discussion were a variety of subjects such as legal questions posed by comments, community engagement and funding independent websites.

You can find out more about JEECamp on the Guardian website – complete with mention of The Lichfield Blog!

Many of the traditional news outlets don’t seem to understand that many people don’t have the time to sit and watch the news, or read a paper. Thinking locally, it is even more difficult, proving a mission with many places having a single papers opinions of life in the area. Places like The Lichfield Blog provide a great service, a news service and discussion service that is bringing local news into the 21st century.

It’s great to see big names like The Guardian (who have always seemed to led the innovation from the printed media point of view) were involved and even better you got a mention. Keep the work up :)
