Chance for Lichfield residents to visit sustainable living sites

Lichfield residents are being invited to join a village group on a tour of sustainable living sites in the Midlands.

Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group’s Grand Day Out on June 6 will visit two of the UK’s top sustainable living attractions – the Sustainable Building Centre in Leamington Spa and Ryton Organic Gardens, near Coventry.

At the award-winning Sustainable Building Centre, you can find out about the newest sustainable building products and technologies available today. The building itself features 170 types of products, including low energy lighting. solar thermal, sedum roof, e-glazing, natural lighting, natural insulation, green floor coverings, rainwater harvesting, biomass, ground source and air source heat pumps, water saving devices, solar power, micro wind and sustainable urban drainage

Wolseley’s SBC team and key suppliers will be on hand to offer expert advice on the benefits of choosing an eco-friendly products.

The ten-acre Ryton Organic Gardens – home to the UK’s leading organic growing charity – are designed to provide you with lots of ideas on how to grow organically in your garden, from fruit and veg to compost and bees.

The site also includes the world’s first public biodynamic garden, the interactive Vegetable Kingdom display and an award-winning organic shop. A special guided tour will help you discover how to create a beautiful and productive garden that benefits you, your garden and the planet.

This is a unique two-for-one opportunity to visit both these centres of excellence in one day – and meet up with like-minded people.

Tickets cost £17.50 (£12.50 for Garden Organic members) and the trip departs from The Bell car park, Main Street Whittington at 9am and will return at approximately 6pm. Lunch is not included but visitors can take a packed lunch or eat at the Ryton Organic Gardens cafe.
