Villagers support campaign against new housing plan for Lichfield

Residents of a Lichfield village have been out in force showing that their fight against a new housing development is still going strong.

Members of Streethay Against Development held a photocall as part of their campaign against plans to build 850 new houses in the village.

The campaigners are heading towards their £2,000 target to pay for a planning expert to help fight their corner, but had seen their battle hampered by the theft of their roadside protest signs.

But a number of residents turned out to support the cause, after Streethay Against Development spokesperson Roger Manning told them they were fighting for the existence of the village as they know it. He explained:

“If built, this development will have its own community and own identity. Adding 850 homes in one foul swoop would extinguish Streethay – it will cease to exist as we know it.”
