A fundraising quiz has given a boost to campaigners fighting proposals to build a new housing estate in their village.

The Streethay Against Development action group is trying to raise £2,000 to employ the services of a planning expert to help them in their battle against 850 new homes being built on a field overlooking the village.

If given the go-ahead, the new homes would increase the number of houses in Streethay by more than 400 per cent.

And their coffers were boosted by the quiz at The Anchor pub in the village on May 20.

Campaign spokesman Roger Manning said:

“There was excellent support from local people and £157 was raised towards the fighting fund.”
