Matthew Ellis, Staffordshire County Councillor for Lichfield Rural East is celebrating after acheiving the biggest gains of any ward in Staffordshire.

In the recent local elections, Ellis saw his majority improve from the second lowest in the county to the second highest. The increase in the majority was from 101 votes in the 2005 elections to 2189 in last week’s elections.

He said, “I was hopeful of retaining my Seat but as the piles of my votes got bigger and bigger at the count on Friday I was genuinely staggered. I think I’ve worked hard over the past four years and this result means an enormous amount to me. Working with local people has not only been a privilege but hugely enjoyable.

“I can’t wait to pick up on many areas of work which we had started and can now finish. Thank you to everyone who supported and helped me.”
