Four ladies from Lichfield are setting off on a challenge to scale four peaks throughout the UK and Ireland to raise money for charity.

Sian Williams, Penny Lovely, Dawn Evans and Dawn Slater are aiming to climb the four peaks in just 48 hours to raise money for the Wooden Spoon Rugby Charity, which supports disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

The schedule the women will follow is;

  • 4pm, Wednesday 1st July – drive to Glasgow to pick up Dawn (one of the walkers)
  • 4pm Thursday, 2nd July – climb Ben Nevis followed by a drive through the night to Helvellyn
  • 6am Friday, 3rd July – climb Helvellyn
  • 4pm Friday – climb Snowdon, then head to Holyhead for the ferry to Dublin
  • Then a five hour road trip to climb Carrauntoohil before 4pm; 48 hours after they started.

They will travel an estimated 1.153 miles followed by a further 453 mile journey home.

Sian, one of the walkers said, “After a few glasses of wine sometime before Christmas 2008, me and 3 other girlfriends decided that climbing the 4 highest mountains (Ben Nevis, Helvellyn, Snowdon and Carrauntoohil) in 48 hours would be a worthwhile way to raise money for charity.

“So without any consideration for the fact that none of us were fit, or had ever climbed a mountain, here we are with just hours to go.”

“We have all trained hard, but should not doubt have cut out the wine a little earlier that 48 hours before the event!  We would be grateful for any sponsorship towards Wooden Spoon.

“In an effort to bring a bit of humour to the event, we will be climbing the last mountain in pink pyjamas, kindly donated by La Senza.  We have also received donations/ raffle prizes from Craghoppers (waterproof jackets), Laura Ashley, Somerfield, Morrisons and Pound Stretcher.”

The four Lichfield ladies are hoping to raise £4,400 for Wooden Spoon and are 40% towards their target so far. You can sponsor them by visiting their JustGiving page.

They’ve also promised videos – so expect further updates!
