Intimate Theatre brings double bill of plays to Lichfield

Intimate Theatre’s next offering in Lichfield is a compelling and provocative double bill of one act plays.

The Sound of Silence, originally written by Jean Cocteau as a 30 minute showcase for Edith Piaf, is a thrilling monologue, first performed in 1940.

The play combines black humour, sardonic wit and resignation to the pain of loss as a successful singer speaks her mind to her faithless but maddeningly silent gigolo who is barricaded behind his newspaper.

The second play, The Dark, is Jonathan Holloway’s lingeringly disturbing tale of inadvertent Mephistophelean pacts, set in the present day and features a Cambridge don who collects protégés in more ways than one.

Can a successful novelist avoid being despatched to an uncertain and sinister fate?

The double bill is on July 9 and 10 at the George Hotel, Lichfield.

Tickets are £8.50 from the George on 01543 414822.
