Rob Strachan has won the by-election in Whittington, becoming the ward’s new councillor and holding onto the seat for The Conservative Party.

A total of 530 votes were placed with the winning candidate receiving 65% of the vote. He beat his only rival, Liberal Democrat Penny Bennion.

Speaking to The Lichfield Blog, Rob said,

“‘I’m thrilled to have been elected to represent the residents of Whittington, Streethay and Fisherwick. I don’t want to be one of those ‘faceless politicians’ who get elected and never get seen in their ward. I want to get my hands dirty. In order to fulfil my role, I intend to meet with the leaders of local groups and the parish councils to discuss their concerns, and to make the voices and concerns of local people known in the District Council.”

Yeah. Well done, Rob! An excellent win despite tough campaigning from the Lib-Dems. Now do your bit for Whittington and Streethay!
