Charities have been feeling the benefit of being chosen as the nominated good causes for the Mayor and Sheriff of Lichfield.

Councillor Mark Warfield, Mayor of Lichfield for 2008-09, and Councillor Norma Bacon, Sheriff of Lichfield for the last year, handed over cheques to two charities at a special event.

A cheque for £1,709 each was presented to Lichfield and District Talking Newspapers and Voluntary Transport for the Disabled.

During their year in office Cllr Bacon and Cllr Warfield raised money for their respective charities through a variety of fundraising initiatives including a Valentine’s Night Charity Ball, charity concerts and barn dance.

Both councillors thanked local organisations who helped them in their efforts including Nether Stowe School Big Band, Abdul Salam and Lichfield Singers, along with all who contributed to the fundraising by supporting the events.
