Workers at a Lichfield company have braved wet weather to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Staff from Midlands Co-op’s Lichfield head office took part in a sponsored charity walk at Shipley Country Park along with colleagues from across the region.

Walk organisers were determined that, come rain or shine, the annual walk would go ahead on July19.

Around 150 staff took part in the seven mile walk, with the aim of smashing the £17,000 charity fundraising total achieved at last year’s event.  Each walker raised money via sponsorship and friends for their staff elected charity, the British Heart Foundation.

David Ellgood, Retail Operations Manager for Midland’s Co-op, who has helped organise the walk, said:

“At the end of this year we will have completed our two year partnership with the British Heart Foundation and we are really pulling out the stops to reach the half a million mark by then.  This is the third year that we have held our Society wide sponsored walk, which is the biggest single event in our fundraising calendar.  We would like to thank all of our colleagues who braved the inclement weather and gave up their spare time and cash for a cause which benefits so many people.”
