footballersFootball fans in Burntwood are being urged to keep fit by replacing watching the beautiful game with playing it this summer.

The thought of piling on the pounds while waiting for the Saturday and Sunday leagues to start up again can be daunting.

But Leisure Leagues in Burntwood is offering players the chance to stay in shape.

Thriving leagues are held at Burntwood Leisure Centre and are looking to expand. Every new team that joins will also get free entry.

Leisure Leagues Senior Manager Chris Rowntree said playing in the league over the summer was an ideal way for footballers to keep their fitness levels up and get back into the game.

Chris said:

“All of us in the office love football, and we all know what it’s like when the season ends – it’s awful. The Ashes can be entertaining, for a day or so anyway, and Leisure Leagues won’t stop for a little bit of rain.”

“The teams are made up of all sorts of players. From groups of mates, pub players, work colleagues, or even the local team that wants to keep sharp in the close season.”

Once they have registered all teams can look forward to fixtures refereed by a fully qualified United Kingdom Independent Football Federation (UKIFF) official.

Chris added:

“All we ask players to do is turn up each week and pay their match fee. Everything else will be sorted by Leisure Leagues.”

Teams will then be able to track their progress up, or down the table at the click of a mouse, via the easy to use Leisure Leagues website, which also includes a full run through of fixtures and results, as well as a weekly round-up report.

An added incentive to teams is the knowledge that by taking part, they’ll also be able to help charity – Leisure Leagues invests all profits into charitable organisations, including Cancer Research UK and the Dogs Trust.
