Lichfield Rugby Club duo Emily Scarratt and Sarah Beale played a starring role as England Women got off to a winning start in the Nations Cup.

Gary Street’s side got off to the perfect start beating USA 36-7 in Toronto.

England were behind early on though as the Americans scored a converted try before reducing the deficit via an unconverted try by Amy Daniels.

Scarratt’s quick-thinking then gave England a 10-7 half-time lead when she broke a tackle before off-loading to Alice Richardson who gave Fiona Pocock the chance to go over for the try.

England rose to the occasion in the second period as Beale got her name on the scoresheet as she powered over the line, quickly followed by her Lichfield colleague Scarratt then added England’s fourth try.

Scarratt and Pocock then added another two tries to round off the scoring as the Americans wilted under pressure.
