Chasetown FC have set the bar high ahead of the new season – with forward Harry Harris insisting the title is the target.

The former Walsall front-man has backed his Scholars team-mates to cope with the new environment of the Unibond First Division South, starting with Saturday’s curtain-raiser at Lincoln United.

And Harris, who has also turned out for Rushall Olympic and Hinckley United in the past, believes that a winning start is crucial.

He told The Lichfield Blog:

“It’s very important that we win on Saturday and get off to a good start, because what’s our target? Promotion, definitely. But we want to win the league.”

After finishing pre-season on a high, Charlie Blakemore’s men go into the season brimming with confidence.

Wins over Cradley Town, Gloucester City, Coalville Town, Ilkeston Town and old rivals Leamington before bringing the curtain down on their pre-season with a 4-3 win against Nantwich Town have given Harris enough belief that the Scholars can more than match his own – and the club’s – ambitions.

He continued:

“We have had a very good pre-season and beaten some very good times which will be good for the team ahead of Saturday’s game. Some good players  have come in as well and they will make us stronger.

“Personally, I think I’ve had a very good pre-season and scored a few goals so hopefully I’ll be able to carry that form into the season.”
