Plan for swine flu vaccinations in Burntwood and Lichfield

sneezingAn implementation plan is being put in place to ensure Lichfield and Burntwood residents are covered as part of a comprehensive swine flu vaccination programme.

Health Secretary Andy Burnham has announced the priority groups for vaccination against swine flu following advice from independent scientific expert committees.

The priority groups are:

  • Individuals aged six months and up to 65 years in the current seasonal flu vaccine clinical at-risk groups
  • All pregnant women, subject to licensing considerations on trimesters
  • Household contacts of immunocompromised individuals e.g. people in regular close contact with patients on treatment for cancer
  • People aged 65 and over in the current seasonal flu vaccine clinical at-risks groups.

These groups will be prioritised for vaccination in order by South Staffordshire PCT, once the vaccine has been licensed.  Frontline health and social care workers will be offered the vaccine at the same time as the first clinical risk group.

The PCT will receive further operational guidance on the roll out of the programme over the next few weeks which we will respond to locally to ensure the protection of the local population.
