Leisure centres in Burntwood and Lichfield will be opening their doors for free as part of the countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Burntwood, Friary Grange and King Edward VI leisure centres are offering free swimming, badminton, squash, tennis, table-tennis and basketball on August 30 and 31.

On August 31 Friary Grange Leisure Centre will also be running a Junior Triathlon for young people aged eight to 16. The triathlon will start at 9am, with a swim in the leisure centre’s swimming pool and then a cycle and run around the leisure centre’s grounds. The race will be split in to age groups:

  • eight years old,
  • nine-tenyears olds
  • 11 – 12 years olds
  • 13 – 14 years olds
  • 15 – 16 years olds

Neil Turner, Leisure Services Manager, said:

“Come along to one of our leisure centres to take advantage of the free fun activities – and who knows we may discover an Olympic star of the future, in our midst. Also, come and support the young athletes competing in Friary Grange Leisure Centre’s Junior Triathlon.”
