Actor and comedian Don Maclean gave shoppers a treat as he made a surprise appearance in costume to launch Lichfield Garrick show Pinocchio.

The show is taking place at the Lichfield Garrick during the October half term, but city shoppers were given a sneak preview as the stars turned out for a photocall.

The production follows the puppet’s adventures as he meets the the Fox and Cat on his journey to find a heart and become a real boy.

Don, who plays Pinocchio’s creator Gepetto, said:

“I’m a great fan of the Garrick and looking forward to treading the boards once again.  I’m always up for a challenge which is why I took the role on.  After my history of working on Crackerjack it’s great to perform to a family audience again.  Lichfield’s a beautiful city and I am happy to be here to launch Pinocchio. The show is full of colourful costumes, laughs and a tall tale or two!”

Don has appeared regularly on TV and radio and in cabaret and theatre all over Britain, including London Palladium seasons, Royal Command Performances and numerous pantomimes. He is well known for his regular appearances on Crackerjack and as the presenter of Good Morning Sunday for 11 years on BBC Radio 2.

Pinocchio is showing at the Lichfield Garrick from October 27 to 31, with a variety of afternoon and early evening performances.

Tickets cost £12.50 for adults, £8.50 for children, and a family ticket (2 adults & 2 children) costs £36.
