The Mellstock Band
The Mellstock Band

Historical music will take centre stage when the Mellstock Band come to Lichfield.

Mellstock is the fictional name that the poet and novelist Thomas Hardy gave to his home parish of Stinsford in Dorset and the Mellstock Band was originally formed to play the music of Hardy’s Wessex using authentic instruments.

A spokesperson for Lichfield Arts, who are promoting the concert, said:

“We are delighted they are joining us in celebrating 300 years of Samuel Johnson, famous lexicographer, essayist, literary critic, biographer, poet and playwright who was born in Lichfield.

“In live performance the Mellstock Band illuminate their music with period costume and spoken word. They entertain with a unique combination of singing, instrumental music and spoken word, encompassing west gallery harmony, traditional songs, glees, dances, marches, poems and stories.”

The Mellstock Band perform at Lichfield Guildhall at 6pm on September 20. Tickets are priced £12 adults, £11 concessions, £10 members and £6 students. To book yours visit the Lichfield Arts website or call 01543 262223.
