Walsall LFC 0 Lichfield Diamonds 4

A rebuilt Walsall side proved to be an interesting test for Lichfield Diamonds in their final warm up game of the season.

With Wyrley’s first team folding and moving to Walsall during the close season the opposition had been strengthened defensively and gave Diamonds a tough challenge.

For the first half – as with their previous two friendlies – Diamonds continued experimenting with their formation and certainly had the better of the attacking play.

A Karen Clough volley was well saved and a Katy Rose shot ran just wide with the keeper scrambling across her goal.

Eventually after a succession of corners the pressure told, when Lindsey Hopton turned in a loose ball to bag her first goal for the club.

For the second half Diamonds reverted to their more accustomed shape which had the home defence under pressure straight away.

Walsall’s keeper change at half-time proved timely as she saved well from Hazel, Clough and Hopton before Clough doubled the lead.

Good work from Shannon Edwards down the right set up Clough to pick out the run of Hazel into the box, who cleverly steered the ball home.

In defence, Dagley, Bennet and Bailey were again rock solid in front of Sheerin in goal and it was left to Clough to complete the scoring and put the seal on a good afternoon’s work from the team.
