Continental Star Reserves 1 Lichfield City FC 1

Lichfield City FC manager Dean Gilbert believes his side lost two points rather than gained one in their 1-1 draw with Continental Star Reserves.

Suspensions meant Lichfield had to draft in reserve team duo Lewis Bourne and Neil Sierzega.

But the new additions did not hamper Lichfield and they deservedly took the lead when Steve Payne struck after 20 minutes.

Bourne nearly doubled the lead just before the break with only a fine save turning his volley over the bar.

However, Star pulled an equaliser out of the bag four minutes from time when a shot took a freak bounce in the six yard box and ended up in the Lichfield net.

But despite being pleased with the effort of his players, Gilbert definitely believes they could – and possibly should – have picked up all three points, even after they had been pegged back late on. He said:

“With the last kick of the game superb work down the right hand side from man of the match Lewis Bourne he produced a perfect cross which beat the keeper only to be cleared off the line before Jim White was able to score the winner.

“The final result was definitley two points lost, but we have to learn to defend for 90 minutes.”

City’s next action sees them take on Racing Club Warwick Reserves at home.
