Police appeal after horse is injured in Burntwood

Police in Burntwood are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a horse was badly injured.

The brown mare – which is kept in a field off Ogley Hay Road, near the M6 Toll Road bridge between Burntwood and the A5 – needed 40 stitches to the wound on its head after the incident which is believed to have happened some time yesterday (September 7) morning.

Sgt Paul Handley, from Burntwood police, said:

“We’re trying to establish how the horse came by its nasty, serious injuries. It may be that they were accidentally caused by other horses or fencing. However, it’s also possible that someone has gone into the field and deliberately harmed the horse.

“This was a very distressing incident for the horse’s owner and we’re urging anyone who witnessed anything suspicious, or knows anything about it, to contact us immediately.”

Anyone with information can ring PC Steve Bristow at Burntwood Police on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 965 of September 7.
