No changes to safety measures at a Lichfield park will be made until after a coroner’s report into the death of a 69-year-old woman.

Patricia Wilcox, from the Boley Park area of the city, was found dead in the water at Beacon Park on September 15.

Police are still trying to determine how she ended up in the water, although they are not treating her death as suspicious.

And Councillor Val Richards, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services at Lichfield District Council, said the authority would be waiting for more information on the incident before deciding if any new safety measures needed to be taken. She explained:

“This was a terrible event, and we’re still shocked that it happened at one of our parks. Our thoughts are with Mrs Wilcox’s friends and family. It is still too early to know the circumstances that led to Mrs Wilcox’s death so we won’t be taking any action until the coroner concludes his report.”
