Goalkeeper Ryan Price has been held up as the example to follow at Chasetown FC by manager Charlie Blakemore.

Price has been out of the side despite recovering from a hip injury suffered earlier in the season.

But after keeping a clean sheet following his return to the starting line-up, Price is likely to wrestle the gloves from understudy Martin Taylor on a permanent basis – starting tomorrow (September 26) against Brigg Town.

And Blakemore believes Price’s patience and fight to win his place back are a shining example to the rest of his squad.

The Scholars boss explained:

“Ryan has shown exactly how to win your place in this team. He hasn’t moaned, he’s just gone about his business.

“He’s been fit for a few weeks now, but Martin Taylor kept two clean sheets in a row while Ryan was out so dropping him wasn’t going to be an option.

“But Ryan came back in against Kidsgrove and was outstanding so he’ll be back against Brigg Town on Saturday.”

In goal is one of the few areas where Blakemore does have competition and he admits it’s something he’d like to have more of across the squad.

The Chasetown boss added:

“That sort of battle for places that you have between Martin and Ryan is exactly what we want, but injuries and one or two people leaving have left us a little bit threadbare.

“Ideally I’d like us to have a couple of players capable of challenging each other for every position. However, the unbelievable injury problems we’ve had have meant that hasn’t always been possible.”
