Lichfield City FC manager Dean Gilbert has admitted he was pleased with his side’s performance despite their defeat to Hampton in the Jack Mould Trophy.

The City boss had warned his misfiring players that he was on the lookout for new faces to freshen things up.

And a narrow 2-1 defeat against league leaders Hampton on Saturday (September 26) has convinced Gilbert that he was right to expect more from his charges.

The Lichfield manager explained:

“Once again we asked for a reaction after last week’s disappointing draw and we got one. I hate repeating myself but it seems its the only way we can compete and show our style of play is when we get onto the players backs and let them know how we feel.

“I have made seven day approaches for a couple of players and hope to tie up their signatures as soon as possible. We warned players new faces would be introduced if we felt we weren’t getting the right reaction from the current squad.”
