Lichfield Diamonds 2 Cannock LFC 0

A typical cup tie from two old rivals saw both teams starting brightly with Diamonds carrying the greater goal threat with the pace of Clough and Hazel.

It was Clough that gave the home side a deserved lead on 15 minutes, beating two defenders and rounding the keeper to slot home into the empty net.

The visitors did rally and had a good 10 minute spell midway through the half as Diamonds’ makeshift midfield came under pressure, forcing a series of corners.

But Diamonds weathered the storm and extended their lead when a long throw by Meghan Rose found its way through to an unmarked Hazel on the six yard line who had all the time in the world to pick her spot.

The second half followed a similar pattern with the city side having the greater possession but unable to convert this into goals and when they did hit the net the flag went up for offside.
