Knowle FC Reserves 1 Lichfield City FC Reserves 3

An inexperienced Lichfield City side recorded a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Knowle Reserves in the Midland Combination Second Division.

Due to work commitments, Dean Gilbert was missing five first-team regulars for the trip to third-placed Knowle and was forced to draft in a number of players from City’s reserve side. The influx of players worked to City’s advantage however as they ran out worthy winners.

Despite going behind in the 10th minute, City fought back thanks to a James Lawson brace and another goal for leading scorer Jon Rob Dutton.

Gilbert said afterwards:

“We were awesome it was as simple as that. After last week’s disappointing result we bounced straight back and proved that we can compete with the best teams in this league.

“We were forced to make a number of changes and credit to those players who came in and put in arguably our best performance of the season.

“It is always pleasing when players are forced to miss games and you know you have the players in the wings waiting for their chance.”

City entertain Leamington Hibernian at Brownsfield Park on Saturday (November 28th), kick-off 2pm.
