Residents are being invited to create their very own handheld lantern to join in a lantern parade through Burntwood.

The procession will take place on December 12 at 6pm and will be followed by a sing-along carol concert by the Burntwood Brigade Band in the grounds of Burntwood Leisure Centre.

Ryan Waldron, Burntwood Community Development Worker, said:

“I think local people will be amazed by the procession, and I hope lots of people get involved. The event is open to everyone, so even if you’re not parading a lantern, come down and follow the parade and take part in the carol concert.”

And to make sure residents can join in the procession a series of free lantern making workshops are being organised.

The workshops will be running at Burntwood Youth Centre, Cherry Close, in Burntwood on:

  • December 5 from 11am to 3pm
  • December6 from 11am to 3pm
  • December 7 from 4pm to 8pm
  • December 9 from 4pm to 8pm
  • December 10 from 4pm to 8pm

Deputy County Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Ian Parry, added:

“The Lichfield procession was a real success, and I am delighted that Burntwood locals will be able to get involved in their own parade this December. This will be a fantastic celebration of the Burntwood community and I do hope lots of people will take part, or simply cheer those on who pass by with their lanterns.”

Children under 12 years of age need to be accompanied by someone aged 16 or over at the workshops and the parade.
