The Christmas lights at Barton Marina

Light rain and a winter chill wasn’t enough to stop the crowds from turning out as the Christmas lights were switched on at Barton Marina, near Lichfield.

Despite traffic congestion on the way in and out of the Marina’s car parks, the crowds were able to enjoy the usual festive treats of warm mulled wine and mince pies.

And children were also able to have their picture taken alongside Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in exchange for a donation to the Burton Breast Care Fund.

The Fund – along with Help for Heroes – was the recipient of a range of fundraising initiatives at the switch-on, with visitors able to swap a donation for a pink light stick to hang from the Barton Marina Christmas tree.

Before the Marina was illuminated for the festive period, the crowds were entertained by the Force 10 Big Band and able to browse the shops and stalls along the waterfront.

The big switch-on itself was hampered somewhat by sound problems which meant the speakers were only heard by a small percentage of the crowd.
