Festive fun on offer for Lichfield and Burntwood families

Families in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to explore Staffordshire during the festive season.

A range of activities are taking place across the county including open-air ice-skating, real reindeer, winter wonderlands and traditional festive markets.

Hundreds of candles and fresh flowers will bring a sparkle to the Victorian Candlelit Evenings at the Shugborough Estate which run from December 2 to 5. Santa, complete with a team of real reindeer, will be meeting children at the estate farm on December 12, 13, 19 and 20 when the estate will be bathed in magical snow showers and carol singers, a barrel organist and stilt walkers.

Tickets for the Victorian Candlelit Evenings cost £10 for adults and £5 for children.

At the Alton Towers Resort this Christmas, Santa rides again with Santa’s Lunch Day packages and Santa Sleepover Festive Breaks, are available throughout December. A selection of rides will be open for hotel residents, as will the Monorail, transporting guests into a winter wonderland.

Trentham Estate in Stoke-on-Trent is hosting an array of seasonal activities throughout December from the Santa experience and outdoor ice skating to rodeo reindeers, all adjacent to the Shopping Village. Enjoy card holders will receive 20 per cent off the Winter Ice Rink during term time.

There is something for young and old at the Museum of Cannock Chase ’s Christmas Family Day on December 6, including Christmas Carols, Punch & Judy, Christmas storytelling sessions and a special Wartime Christmas in the 1940s Room. Santa and his Elf will be in the Coal Mine and there will also be festive drop-in art and craft workshops.

At the Birches Valley Forest Centre in Cannock Chase, real Christmas trees will be available to buy. Soak up the atmosphere with thousands of fresh trees available to buy as well as traditional festive decorations. The centre will be open daily throughout December.

Visitors can hitch a ride on a sledge or slide on foot through the magical Winter Wonderland at Tamworth ’s SnowDome. Real snow is guaranteed, along with real reindeer and a festive Winter Wonderland show. Open daily throughout November and December, Santa will be accompanied by children’s favourite, Sooty. Standard tickets are £16.95 per person and saver tickets cost £12.95.

Leek is turning the clock back more than 100 years on December 5 with a Dickensian Market.  Outdoor traders, fine food purveyors, crafts and antique stalls will display their wares in The Market Place, dressed in period costume and accompanied by traditional street entertainers, rides and much more.
