Lichfield City FC boss Dean Gilbert has bolstered his squad with two signings ahead of Saturday’s trip to Racing Club Warwick Reserves.

Utility man Sam Chandler has arrived from Brereton Social along with Cypriot midfielder Ilie Markopoulos.

Gilbert said:

“I’ve known Sam for a while through his father who was a goalkeeper at Hednesford Town a few years ago. He’s a player I’ve kept my eye on and I’m pleased that he has chosen to join Lichfield.

“Ilie was recommended to me by his university sports lecturer and he is a very confident player who plays with that bit of continental flair.”

The pair will be in contention for this weekend’s trip to Warwickshire as City look to extend their unbeaten run to three games against the league’s bottom club.

Gilbert added:

“We beat Racing Club 4-0 at our place back in September and, if I’m being honest, their fortunes haven’t really changed since. Like all reserve sides their squad always depends on how the first-team are doing.

“I’m sure they will start picking up points. I just hope they don’t start on Saturday.

“It’s always nice to take young players to places like Racing Club. They were a big club and have excellent facilities, so it gives the lads a glimpse of where we all went to get to in the future.”

The Midland Combination Second Division clash takes place at Hampton Road tomorrow (December 5), kick-off 3pm.
