Holly-age-6-Bethany-age-9-IMG_4134Burntwood residents turned out in force for the town’s first ever lantern parade.

Around 250 local people joined a whole host of agencies to parade their lanterns at Burntwood Christmas Lantern Parade, which took place on December 12.

Lanterns of all shapes and sizes lit up the night sky, including a hot air balloon, a police van, a huge Father Christmas and a life-sized car!

Lots of people followed the festive lantern parade on the one mile trip, which culminated in a sing along carol concert at the Burntwood Leisure Centre.

Ryan Waldron, Burntwood Community Development Worker, said:

“This was our first lantern parade in Burntwood and we’re all thrilled it has been such a success. Everyone put so much effort into their lanterns, and they looked spectacular. This was a huge partnership event, and it couldn’t have happened without the support of so many local agencies. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made it a night to remember and to all the local volunteers for their invaluable help.”

Ian Parry, Deputy County Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added:

“Staffordshire County Council are proud to be involved in this year’s Burntwood Lantern Procession which has proved to be a real success. The high turnout and creativity of the lanterns is a true reflection of what a wonderful event this has been. I am certain that all those involved enjoyed themselves immensely.”

Burntwood Lantern Parade was made possible through the support of Lichfield District Council, Staffordshire County Council, Burntwood Community and Learning Partnership, Adult & Community Learning, HomeZone Living, Lichfield District Safer Community Partnership, Burntwood Town Council, Staffordshire Police Service, Staffordshire Fire Service, B Arts, Staffordshire Youth Service, St Johns Ambulance, South Staffordshire Age Concern, Burntwood Brigade Band, Burntwood Methodist Church, Alzheimer’s Society and lots of local residents.
