Pub owner Paul Maddox, Richard Lewis and PC Adam Thompson launch Pubwatch in Lichfield

People causing trouble in lichfield pubs could be given the red card thanks to a new scheme in the city.

The Pubwatch initiative – which is backed by Staffordshire Police – will see unruly drinkers banned from pubs across Lichfield if they’re given a football-style red card.

Richard Lewis from the Lichfield Townsafe Partnership explained:

“Lichfield has a vibrant and growing night time economy which attracts many hundreds of people looking for a great night out. The city is well policed with local police officers and pub door staff working closely together to deal with any issues.

“Under the new Pubwatch scheme, anyone behaving badly now runs the risk of not only being asked to leave the bar they are in, but also being banned from all the bars in the city which have signed up to the scheme.”

Inspector Trevor Steventon, Commander of Lichfield neighbourhood Policing Unit said Pubwatch would help underpin current police activities such as Operation Safer Nights.

He said:

“Our aim and that of our partners is to keep our city centre safe and Operation Safer Nights, supported by Pubwatch, will enable us to target the very small minority of people who drink too much or who abuse drugs and spoil the atmosphere for others.”

I do like this bit – “anyone behaving badly now runs the risk of not only being asked to leave the bar ”

They MIGHT ASK you to leave – so before you were not even asked to leave.
