Dean Gilbert is hoping for some festive cheer on Boxing Day when his Lichfield City FC side entertain Continental Star Reserves at Brownsfield Park (kick-off 11.30am).

City’s Jack Mould Trophy quarter-final at Kenilworth Town KH was postponed last Saturday due to a frozen pitch and now, as his side get back to league matters, Gilbert has revealed that he is expecting a tough test against a side he has a lot of respect for.

He said:

“Continental Star are a club with a fantastic history and are, quite rightly, proud of their community work in the Birmingham area. Their first-team manager, Lincoln Moses, is a person I have known through the circuit for a long time. Lincoln is now an ambassador for the anti-racism campaign and was recently awarded an MBE. He is Mr. Continental Star after 23 years at the helm of the club.

“They have some very good players and it will be a s tough test for my lads. The last time we met, we were held to a 1-1 draw. That game could have gone either way with both keepers being in top form.

“Boxing Day is always a special day for football and hopefully today will be no different. It’s a chance for people to get out of the house after the festivities of Christmas day and, with that in mind, we are all hoping that there will be a bumper crowd at Brownsfield Park.”

Lichfield City are currently looking to recruit a first-team coach. Anyone interested should contact first-team manager, Dean Gilbert, on 07983 394 090.
