Burntwood RUFC 3rds 20 St Leonards RUFC 2nds 0

Playing at the Chasetown Specialist Sports College pitch had no impact on Burntwood RUFC 3rds as they scored three unanswered tries in the Merit Table clash with St Leonards RUFC 2nds.

While the Development XV and Handsworth RUFC 2nds were unable to beat the weather at The Sportsway, the 3rds went ahead with a try by Craig Addy following a well-worked backs move involving skipper Mark Willson.

They went close on two further occasions before Hal Gozukucuk extended the lead with a brace of second half tries, the second of which was a fine individual effort. A penalty and a conversion by Matt Cummins completed the tally.

Burntwood were holding on by the end to keep a clean sheet but inspired by the likes of Dave Jarrett and by the running of Tom Mason they were worthy winners.

On Saturday (February 6) the Development XV are at Eccleshall and the 3rds are away to Brinsford – both are Merit Table fixtures.
