A pub in the heart of Lichfield’s historic city centre is branching out into an unusual new venture by bringing intimate theatre performances to their customers.

Already well known for its popular music nights, the landlords of the George IV have invited local professional theatre company Nobody’s Perfect Productions to bring their latest touring production to the city on March 21 at 8pm.

That’s Entertainment by local writer Phil Preece is a double-bill which takes the lid off performers at both the top of show business and the bottom.

Mr Blue Sky tells the story of Rock ‘n’ Roller Vince Meager who has been touring since what he calls the “stoned age” but can’t remember much about it. So when a young fan comes backstage a trip down memory lane leads him to some exciting and disturbing conclusions. It’s a comedy with poignant twists and some very unexpected and hilarious developments.

That’s Entertainment is set backstage at a television awards ceremony. Comedy duo Joe and Lee are at the very top of their television game.  But what the audience normally doesn’t see is how the pressure has got to them in private, and when they should be celebrating we see how fame and success come at a price in this comic but explosive drama.

Director Paolo Allen said:

“Nobody’s Perfect Productions was started last year with the intention of bringing grown-up drama to new venues. That’s Entertainment is currently on tour around the UK including Birmingham, Derby, and London’s prestigious West End. The whole company is delighted to have the opportunity to bring this successful double-bill to the intimate setting of the George which is perfect for these two plays which are an intimate portrayal of the comedy and occasional tragedy of every day life.”

Tickets are priced at £5 and are available from Paolo Allen on 01889 584851 and from the George IV pub.

Hi all, just a n additional note to say that seating for this special performance is very limited so if you are thinking about coming along I would grab a ticket early as there are very few remaining!
