Bogus callers injure 88-year-old Lichfield woman

Bogus callers have injured an 88-year-old Lichfield woman after forcing their way into her home.

The woman received slight injuries to her arm after she was pushed out of the way by two young men and had to be treated at the scene by a paramedic.

The pair called at the house in the Redlock Field area of Lichfield shortly after 8pm on Monday (8 March) claiming to be checking water pipes.

Lichfield neighbourhood policing commander, Inspector Jed White, said:

“This was a despicable and potentially serious assault on an elderly and vulnerable member of our community. I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Redlock Field/Chesterfield Road/Fossway areas to contact police as a matter of urgency.

“Luckily this lady was not seriously hurt although she was badly shocked by the incident, and I am appealing for information from the local community to help police track down these offenders and bring them to justice.”

Police have carried out house to house enquiries and spoken to neighbours.

Insp White added:

“These individuals are very likely to have called at other houses in the area earlier in the evening and I would urge anyone who may have had a visit from them to contact police.”

The men were both white, one was around 20 years old and the other younger, around 16 years old. The older male was of stocky build with short fairish hair and wearing a blue jacket. The younger male had short, dark hair.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Kiley Round at Tamworth CID on 0300 123 44 55 or, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
