Two Lichfield organisations are teaming up to perform Paul Allen’s stage version of the award-winning hit film Brassed Off.

The Lichfield Players and the Lichfield Garrick Rep Company will be performing the show, which is set 10 years after the miners’ strikes of 1984. The story follows the heart-tugging struggle of one colliery band’s fight for the chance to play at the Albert Hall.

As well as many familiar faces from the Lichfield Players amongst the cast, the Rep’s four professional actors include Rachel Matthews who appeared recently as Princess Balroubador in Aladdin.  Thirteen-year-old William Stevenson from the Garrick Rep School of Acting also stars.

Lichfield Players Chairman Rachel Parkes added:

“We’re especially excited that Tamworth-based Amington Band – 2008 National Brass Band Finalists – are going to be playing live on stage as an integrated part of each performance. The music is an incredibly powerful element of the storytelling and to hear and see it live will make for a special night out.”

The production is directed by Chris Rolls, acclaimed professional director of opera and theatre who has worked alongside Trevor Nunn and the Donmar Warehouse’s Michael Grandage.

Brassed Off runs at the Lichfield Garrick from April 13 to 17. Tickets – priced £16.50 and £14.50 – are available by calling 01543 412121.
