The first bands have been confirmed for the Fuse music festival in Lichfield.

The free event is celebrating it’s tenth year with a Dance Your Socks off theme and will take place in Beacon Park from July 9 to11.

Bands booked so far include talented local rhythm and blues outfit The Shooters for the opening Friday night.

And on Saturday it’s the turn of local dance/rap act Voice and Reason, folk/hip hop fusion from PBS6 and Zimbabwean band Chimanimani.

Sunday’s bands will include Wildfire Folk, the Lichfield Youth Folk Ensemble and the All Star Ceilidh Band.

Because the event is free, fundraising efforts are continuing as Fuse Director, Tim Perks explained:

“Fuse is now beginning to take shape with some great bands and lots more besides but we still need to raise more funds to break even. Save the date, tell your family and friends, and come and join us for a truly amazing weekend.”

Alongside the music another major highlight of Fuse will be the performance of Dance Your Socks Off! – The Finale, a large scale community dance piece involving hundreds of people from local schools, community groups and dance groups.

The choreography, directed by Lichfield District Dance Development Officer, Louise Glynn, promises to be “unusual, exciting, experimental and innovative” with the whole performance made up of linked pieces from each group inspired by the title. All sorts of dance styles will be seen including breakdance, streetdance and contemporary dance.
