Two people were arrested for carrying cannabis and 16 people were given tickets for fare dodging after a police operation at Lichfield City railway station.

Operation Shield saw metal detectors installed an passengers searched on Friday evening (March 26) as part of a joint crackdown by Staffordshire Police and British Transport Police.

As well as the cannabis arrests, one person had alcohol seized, another was reported for travel fraud and one traveller was given an £80 fixed penalty notice for a public order offence.

Five people were also given section 27 public order notices requiring them to leave the area and not return.

In total 150 people were searched as part of the operation. Despite the presence of the metal detectors in the station no weapons were found.
