Hereford Phoenix 0 Lichfield Diamonds Ladies 1

Lichfield Diamonds made the long journey to Hereford knowing they would be in for a tough game against a team fighting relegation.

Starting brightly the city side dominated possession but could not convert that into goals as Hopton had several chances well saved and Katy Rose had three free kicks that just cleared the bar.

Hereford raised their game in the second half and pushed forward, which created more space for Diamonds.

Hopton beat two players in the box only for the keeper to again beat away her shot. Rose then hit the angle of the bar before Diamonds got the well deserved break through.

Right back Sarah Sampson broke down the right fed Shannon Edwards who cut inside and drove the ball across the keeper into the far corner.

Late on Emma Dagley – who along with player of the match Julie Caddick had been superb throughout – latched onto a loose ball just outside the box and drilled it low and hard, only to see the ball go just the wrong side of the post.
