Nina Dawes receives the election writ from the Royal Mail's Ian Ross

The election machine has swung into action in Lichfield after the official notice of the impending vote was given to the city.

Following the dissolution of Parliament on April 12, the head of the Crown Office, the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery, issued election writs to the 650 constituencies in the UK. These writs are the official notices to Acting Returning Officers that an election is to be held in their constituency.

Yesterday (April 13) Nina Dawes, Acting Returning Officer for Lichfield constituency, received an election writ and officially signed for it. She said:

“Receiving the writ sets the election timetable in motion so it is a busy time for us. Anyone who is not sure if they are on the electoral register has until April 20 to add their name to it. This will enable them to vote in this May’s general election, so it’s really important that they register.”

Registering takes just a few minutes. If you live in Lichfield district visit www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/elections to download an application form, or call the Elections Team on 01543 308125.
