The UK Independence Party have named their PPC for the Lichfield constituency at the general election.

Lichfield resident Karen Maunder will face Michael Fabricant (Conservatives), Steve Hyden (Labour) and Ian Jackson (Liberal Democrats) on May 6, according to the UKIP website.

The 46-year-old will be looking to improve on the 3.4 per cent of the vote won by her predecessor Malcolm McKenzie in the 2005 election.

She said:

“From economics to immigration, from wind farms to lightbulbs, from human rights to political correctness, the corrupt, bureaucratic European Union now controls nearly everything we do. A UKIP vote is a vote to rid ourselves of the EU dictatorship and restore British democracy and common sense policies.”

The news that UKIP will contest the Lichfield constiuency once more comes after the British National Party ruled out standing.
