The Leader of Lichfield District Council has announced he is to stand down.

David Smith (Cons, Stonnall) told a meeting of councillors last night that he would be leaving his post after 11 years in May.

However, he intends to remain as a councillor.

Nina Dawes, Chief Executive of Lichfield District Council, said:

“Last night Cllr Smith, Leader of Lichfield District Council, announced his intention to stand down as leader at this year’s annual council meeting on May 11. At the same meeting, the new leader of the council will be announced. On behalf of all the officers at the council, I would like to express our appreciation for David’s efforts as leader over the past 11 years and for his contribution to our district.”
