As revealed exclusively by The Lichfield Blog, Cllr Mike Wilcox is set to replace Cllr David Smith at the helm of the ruling Conservative party.

His appointment is likely to be confirmed at a meeting of the council on May 11.

Cllr Wilcox said:

“I will be so proud to take on the role as Leader of Lichfield District Council. Lichfield District is a great place to live and work, and I’m really looking forward to working with all of the councillors and officers at the District Council, to take forward plans to help deliver improvements in the areas we know matter to local people.”

Outgoing Leader Cllr Smith added:

“There are so many exciting projects and initiatives on the horizon, that the time is right for me to step down and welcome on board a new Leader to take things forward into the future. I’m absolutely delighted that Councillor Michael Wilcox will be taking on the role.

“Michael has been the Cabinet Member for Finance, Revenues and Benefits, and has many years professional experience delivering challenging projects against a strong financial backdrop. I look forward to supporting him in his new role.”
