Lichfield City FC win three on the bounce

Lichfield City FC look set to finish the season on a high after recording three victories in the space of six days.

City defeated Continental Star Reserves 3-1 last Wednesday and followed this up with a 4-1 win at Feckenham on Saturday and a 6-0 victory over AFC Smethwick on Bank Holiday Monday.

Those trio of wins mean that City will finish the season in third place in the Midland Combination Second Dvivision table.

This is no mean feat for Dean Gilbert’s troops who only gained promotion from the Third Division last season.

City entertain Greenhill at Brownsfield Park on Saturday (May 8), kick-off 3.00pm, and Gilbert is, quite rightly, proud of what his team have achieved this term. He said:

“When we got promoted last season me and my assistant, Andy McRobbie, sat down and had to make a lot of decisions. We looked at the side, looked at how many players we needed just to survive our first season in Division Two, and set out with the feelings that as long as we retained our Division Two status we would be happy.

“However, the current crop of players have proved us, and a lot of people, wrong. It’s been an absolutely superb season and I’d like to thank everyone involved at Lichfield City for their hard work.

“Hopefully we can sign off with a win and then have a deserved break before going at it again next season. I’ve said it before but these are exciting times for Lichfield City.”
