Burntwood Rugby Club to host Help for Heroes fundraiser

Burntwood Rugby Club are doing their bit for Help For Heroes by staging a series of events at their Sportsway HQ to raise funds for the charity.

The centrepiece of the May 23 event is a rugby match kicking off at 11.30am between a Burntwood squad and an invitation side made up of servicemen, ex-servicemen and members of the emergency services. Each squad will be wearing specially designed shirts for the occasion as will the match officials.

During an extended half time break spectators will be entertained by a military band. Prior to the kick off, weather permitting, the match ball will be parachuted in.

Members of the White Helmets Motor Cycle Display team should be in attendance to add to the event.

Proceedings begin at 10am with a rugby skills session by the junior section of the home club plus soccer skills from Burntwood Dragons FC. There will be a hog roast and BBQ along with various stalls provided by Help For Heroes and the rugby club. Merchandise on sale will include replica shirts of the charity game.

Attendance at the event is free although there will be a small charge for car parking. Members of the local army cadet force will be taking a bucket collection around to swell the funds for the charity and there will also be a grand raffle to aid the cause.

The day’s events will be rounded off with a free disco provided by Pete McKenzie in the clubhouse.

Burntwood RUFC welcome any support for this worthy cause. More details can be obtained from organiser Kenny Adams 07818 717608 or contact the clubhouse on 01543 676651.
