Estate agents in Burntwood and Lichfield are being warned not to attach advertising boards to street signs.

The crackdown comes after what Lichfield District Council calls “a growing trend” of adverts springing up on signs.

And to tackle the problem, the council has launched a new set of rules will see estate agents and letting agents given 48 hours to remove any notices. If they fail to do so, the council will remove any signs and will charge for them to be released.

Councillor Louise Flowith explained:

“We’ve had to remove a number of estate agents’ property advertising boards from street nameplates within the district. Because these nameplates were not designed to carry extra weight, some have been damaged, and we have had to replace a number of older ones. This is why we have developed a protocol and are hoping estate agents will follow it.”
